微軟調降授權費

為了挽救Windows作業系統人氣，微軟決定祭出調降授權費用以及增添軟體的方式，這次微軟想要拉抬的是Windows之下最尷尬的產品線：Windows RT作業系統。

《華爾街日報》指出，微軟這次的大動作，是希望能藉此鼓勵更多電腦廠商願意生產Windows RT平板電腦。 雖然微軟並未透露詳細的降價資訊，不過根據相關人士表示，微軟調降Windows和Office授權成本將近三分之二，不過僅限於生產10.1吋以下的平 板電腦。
Windows RT作業系統是微軟專為搭載ARM晶片的平板電腦另外開發的作業系統。但這套作業和微軟平板電腦Surface所使用的Windows 8以及微軟手機所使用的作業系統全不相容。
自從推出Windows RT之後，電腦商的回應卻是相當冷淡，不願意開發生產Windows RT平板電腦。根據市場研究機構IDC報告，今年第一季Windows RT平板電腦市占率不到1％，遠遠落後蘋果iPad 40％的市佔率。
微 軟除了要避免與自己的平板電腦Surface硬碰硬之外，最主要原因包含兩點：一是Windows RT只適用於搭載ARM處理器的平板電腦，應用範圍有限；二是Windows RT內建的應用程式有限，雖然有Word以及Excel等常見的文書處理程式，但卻沒有包含Outlook。使用Windows RT的平板電腦，必須下載另一個email app，才能收發電子郵件。
