當蘋果向Facebook;Google 開砲:Google joins Facebook in Apple’s banning spree. Facebook錯過了解決隱私侵犯問題的時機; Facebook posts record $6.9 billion profit amid privacy scandals

Google joins Facebook in Apple’s banning spree.

Facebook's endless PR crises don't appear to be hurting its bottom line
蘋果執行長庫克之前就有公開表態,說Facebook錯過了解決隱私侵犯問題的時機,而自己「根本不會走到Facebook這個地步」。

BBC:Google Chrome changes could 'destroy' ad-blockers

Google Chrome changes could 'destroy' ad-blockers

Blocking ads could become much harder if Google makes proposed changes to its Chrome web browser, warn developers.
The changes could "destroy" ad-blockers, said one maker of widely-used blocking software.
Others said the update would make it far harder for users to stop firms tracking them online and make it easier for them to be bombarded with ads.
Google said the proposals were a "draft" and added that it would work with developers to limit their impact.

No changes

"This would basically mean that Google is destroying ad-blocking and privacy protection as we know it," said a statement from ad-blocking developer Ghostery given to the Gizmodo tech news site.
Ad-blockers are a type of add-on or extension for a web browser that, as their name implies, try to spot and stop the commercial messages found on many web pages. There are many different types of browser extension.
Ghostery's comments were echoed by Raymond Hill, head developer of the popular uBlock Origin add-on for Chrome, who said the extension would "no longer be able to exist" if the changes were enacted according to the current proposal.
In a message put on a key discussion list for Chrome, Google said it wanted to make the changes to improve the "security [and] privacy" of extensions and improve their performance.
Often, it said, when add-ons examine incoming data, web pages take longer to load.
The row has blown up over Google's plan to stop extensions changing data they receive from the sites that users visit. This ability to block, modify or redirect incoming data is key to the extensions' ability to stop ads and pop-ups, as well as to thwart attempts to track users or seize their data.
The proposed update would mean extensions can only look at the incoming data rather than alter it.
"I don't see what is to be gained from doing this," Mr Hill from uBlock Origin told The Register.
Other developers pointed to separate proposals that could also restrict the ability of browser extensions to protect users.
Following the comments and criticisms, Google said it planned to consult with the makers of browser add-ons to limit the changes they had to make.
"This design is still in a draft state, and will likely change," wrote Google software engineer Devlin Cronin in a message put on the Chrome discussion list.
"Our goal is not to break extensions," he added.

If you use Google's Chrome then you should be aware of a new threat which could leave your most private and personal details exposed to hackers.

The issue, which was spotted by cybersecurity firm Eleven Paths, uses a sneaky Chrome extension to steal data from forms filled in on websites visited by the victim.

This extension was first spotted last year with Eleven Paths recently posting a blog saying it's still very much active.

Speaking about how the extension is finding its way on to browsers, Eleven Paths explained: "Instead of targeting victims through searches or massive emailing – which would make this campaign much more successful but at the same time much more ‘detectable’– the attackers have opted for another method.

"They infect websites using a JavaScript that can detect if the browser is a Chrome one.

"In such a case, they just redirect to a web site indicating the users that they must install Flash, and then they are redirected to that extension."

With many people using online forms to send personal data such name, address and even bank details there is a serious threat this latest attack could leave some Chrome users open to being hacked.

Eleven Paths say they have alerted Google about the extension in the hope that it is removed from the market as soon as possible.

The news of this Chrome hack comes as Google aims to make its browser more user-friendly.

Last year Google launched its built-in ad blocker in some countries which is aimed at stopping users seeing some pop-up ads on desktops and flashing animated ads on mobile devices.

And now Google has revealed that the built-in ad blocker for Chrome will be expanding to every country in the world.

It's been confirmed that the Chrome ad blocker expansion will come into force on July 9 2019.

In a statement, Google said: “Our ultimate goal is not to filter ads, but to build a better web for everyone, everywhere.

“Chrome's enforcement of the Coalition’s standards has inspired many website owners to improve the advertising experience on their sites in a way that benefits users.

“In the U.S, Canada, and Europe, website owners have successfully been able to make changes to the ads on their sites.

“As of January 1 2019, two thirds of all publishers who were at one time non-compliant to the Better Ads Standards are now in good standing.

“Further, out of millions of sites we’ve reviewed to date, less than one per cent have had their ads filtered.”
