Apple Tweaks Font in iOS 7 Beta, Bloggers Go Wild
By Ian Sherr
When Apple’s iOS 7 was first unveiled in June, the visuals were markedly changed from previous versions. Flat and bright colors replaced realistic surfaces, such as the felt of a gambling table, for example.
The changes got mixed feedback on blogs and on Twitter. But one thing
critics homed in on in particular: the font. It was too thin, they
argued. Monday, Apple sent out its latest pre-release version of the
software to developers and it included a thicker font, presumably to make it more readable.
Apple — any developer, really — makes numerous changes to software
between the first unveiling and the final release. That’s why it’s
called beta.Bloggers are claiming victory nonetheless. (That’s already spawned its own tit-for-tat debate in the community.) It’s unlikely Apple changed the font because of needling from bloggers, and even less likely anyone outside of the company’s inner design circle will know for sure. Still, it has certainly gotten the Apple-watching community more excited about iOS 7. An Apple spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
