Google Fiber

Google 光纖（Google Fiber）是 Google 建造超高速網路的基礎設施中一項實驗計畫，繼堪薩斯城為 Google Fiber 第一個試驗城市後，陸續擴展到美國其他大城市。這家科技巨擘也嗅探出 Wi-Fi 的重要價值，在尋求建置無線網路的可能性。

據 IDG News Service 的消息指出，Google 發送一份文件到全美34個舖設 Google Fiber 城市的居民，該文件沒有提出對 Wi-Fi 的具體計劃，但間接暗示這種服務的可能性。
2012年 Google 在美國堪薩斯州推出了 Google Fiber，網路速度達 1Gps，網路上下傳的速度是全美第一，相當於普通電信商的 100 倍，而且價格為每個月 70 美元相當便宜；若選擇再加上 Fiber TV 服務，可收看200個電視頻道，收費則是網路加電視每個月 120 美元。堪薩斯城完成後，後續擴展到猶他州普洛佛市、德州奧斯汀市，Google 在二月份宣佈計劃拓展到九個地區、涵蓋34個城市。
雖然目前還不清楚 Google 打的算盤，但可期待這些舖設 Google Fiber 城市可能獲得 Wi-Fi 所帶來的好處與便利生活，Google 也將能進一步對傳統電信商展開競爭。而目前 Google 官方則不願對外表示任何意見。
