相信大部份人在 Youtube 看影片時,都曾有觀看過程中被突如其來廣告打斷的經驗,尤其是播放到精彩片段時廣告突然插入,更會讓人加倍生氣。不過,使用者還是有辦法對付這些無孔不入的廣告,只要安裝 Wladimir Palant 於 2006 創造的一套軟體「AdBlock Plus」,就可以防止惱人的廣告影響我們瀏覽頁面的心情。
不過,對於像 Google 這樣依靠廣告曝光營利的公司可是一點也開心不起來,Google 甚至決定讓有安裝 AdBlock Plus 軟體的用戶,強制收看完整版的廣告、不能跳過。
AdBlock Plus 還給頁面乾淨的空間
事實上,AdBlock Plus 是火狐(Firefox)底下最熱門的附加元件(add-on),至今年九月為止,全世界已經有超過 2050 萬用戶安裝。Mozilla 表示:「粉絲們會喜歡用 AdBlock Plus 的原因在於我們讓他們可以選擇要如何瀏覽網站。」這套軟體提供多種支援版本,例如:火狐、Google Chrome、Android 和 Safari 等,使用者都可以下載此軟體來過濾不同裝置上的廣告。

然而,這對以廣告營利為主的網路平台、社群媒體和部落格等網站來說,卻是非常大的危機,連Google 也感受到這股強大的壓迫感。這些網站共同宣稱,他們因為 AdBlock Plus 的出現,廣告收益大幅減少。Google 旗下的 Youtube 儘管擁有一億名用戶,但大部分的觀眾是透過其他社群平台看影片,而非在 Youtube 自己的首頁觀賞。如此一來,本來利潤就極低的 Youtube,現在遇到阻擋廣告問題,更需要趕快尋找解決辦法。
Youtube 逆襲:安裝 AdBlock 用戶無法跳過廣告
為了要讓 Youtube 頁面上廣告不被過濾掉,Google 想出一個對策,那就是安裝 AdBlock Plus 的用戶在看 Youtube 平台上的影片時,必須把影片撥放前完整版廣告看完,重點是沒有「略過廣告」這個選項。如果用戶想要跳過廣告,就只能選擇解安裝 AdBlock 或是將 Youtube 放進白名單(whitelist)裡。外界猜測,Google Chrome 經過一番的努力之後,終於找到如何躲避 AdBlock Plus 的偵察系統,順利播出廣告。不過,AdBlock Plus 也不甘示弱的回應,只有在 Chrome 瀏覽器才會有這樣情形出現,只要換其他瀏覽器就沒這些問題存在。

該不該阻擋廣告長期以來一直是很敏感的議題,對於內容產製者和出版商來說,廣告收益來源當然是非常重要的,但對使用者而言,他們卻沒辦法選擇要看到的頁面以及內容。使用者與廣告商之間的戰爭,可以確定將持續延燒。

據媒體報導稱,闊別中國五年後,美國互聯網巨擘谷歌將有望重返中國市場。也有專家對此表示質疑。
(德國之聲中文網)五年前,谷歌因為和中國政府在審查問題上陷入爭執而退出中國。但是據技術資訊網站"The Information"週五(9月4日)的一則消息稱,谷歌將很快重返中國。
該網站援引消息人士指出,谷歌希望最早於今秋獲得中國政府的許可,在中國推出"Google Play" 安卓應用程序商店的中國特別版。谷歌已有打造、本土化運營該商店和與相關中國公司合作的全面計劃。
"The Information"還稱,谷歌也希望在中國市場拓展支持安卓版本的可穿戴設備。網站評論道:"這些舉動將重建谷歌在中國大陸作為網絡服務供應商的角色。""這將標誌著谷歌與中國的關係進入新的篇章,谷歌的一些人士稱2010年公開與(中國)政府對抗是一個大錯。"
《華爾街日報》同一天也援引知情人士報導稱,谷歌正與中國政府官員及手機製造商洽談,欲在中國推出新版安卓應用商店。
但同時,桑福德·伯恩斯坦公司(Sanford C. Bernstein)分析師卡洛斯·基里納爾(Carlos Kirjner)向該報表示,如果谷歌向中國屈膝、默許政府的審查,他會感到驚訝。他補充說,那將會是一場艱苦的鬥爭,因為諸如奇虎360、百度和騰訊等中國公司都已有自己的應用程序商店並提供與移動設備有關的服務。
《華爾街日報》另外援引一名知情人士寫道,長期而言,谷歌希望恢復中國安卓系統的谷歌搜索和Gmail等功能,這會更敏感,因為它很可能將要求在中國儲存用戶信息,由此將為政府提供監控信息的途徑。這名人士補充說,這將代表谷歌在審查和數據隱私問題上做出巨大改變,所以並不屬於目前計劃的範疇。
另一名消息人士還向該報透露,一旦Google Play應用商店和官方安卓系統手機在中國上市,谷歌將藉此推動旗下更多服務在中國解禁。

First they changed their name, now they’ve changed their logo. Googleintroduced a new sans-serif and slightly toned-down four-colour logo on Tuesday in the biggest redesign since 1999.
Google said the new design would soon be seen across all its products. Google’s homepage introduced the redesign with an animation that wiped away the old logo and drew the new one.
“Google has changed a lot over the past 17 years – from the range of our products to the evolution of their look and feel. And today we’re changing things up once again,” the company said in a blogpost.

The company said the redesign was meant to reflect the way that people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices.
“It doesn’t simply tell you that you’re using Google, but also shows you how Google is working for you. For example, new elements like a colorful Google mic help you identify and interact with Google whether you’re talking, tapping or typing. Meanwhile, we’re bidding adieu to the little blue ‘g’ icon and replacing it with a four-color ‘G’ that matches the logo.”
The logo has undergone many, mainly small, changes in its history. The colours have changed, 3D letters have been flattened, and an exclamation point came and went in 1999.
The move comes just a month after a major restructuring of the company was unveiled. Google is now owned by Alphabet, a holding company created by founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page to separate their money-making search engine company from the loss-making, “moon shot” projects like robot cars, medical research and internet-delivering balloons.
